NEW YORK, Nov. 29, 2010 by Sam Ramos Swarovski shares the big screen with stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder in the upcoming psychological thriller, BLACK SWAN. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, BLACK SWAN takes a thrilling and haunting journey through the psyche of a young ballerina whose starring role as the Swan Queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte created the "Swan Lake" ballet costumes for BLACK SWAN and turned to their long time friend and supporter Swarovski, who donated nearly 250,000 crystals, weighing 40kgs for the ballet costumes, to add drama to the dark, romantic aesthetics of the pivotal ballet scenes. Rodarte worked with Swarovski crystals on the Black Swan and White Swan costumes as well as the diaphanous white gown worn by Natalie Portman's character.
The film premiered as the opening film for the 67th Venice International Film Festival on September 1, 2010. The film had a limited release on December 3, 2010 and will have a wide release on December 22
